How do you stop computer programs from initiating on start up?
For example, msn messenger, yahoo messenger, etc etc. These programs that make the start up process SO long for my computer, which uses XP btw. Is there something I can do so that they don't just start running and then I have to close them? I'd have it that I can open them when I want to use them.... I hope that makes sense. Can anyone help?

I just fried my computer. Should I get a Mac or a PC?
Alright, so here's the story My computer wouldn't start last week, so I unplugged it and tried one of my old ones to see if it was the computer or the outlet itself . That one didn't turn on either, so I unplugged that one and both of them sat in my room for about a week. Today I decided to give it another go and plugged in my original computer. When I plugged in the power cord to the back of the computer, there was a very bright flash that came from the vent in the back and the speakers made a loud pop sound, like the sound of a starting gun. Now I'm afraid to plug in the other one which doesn't even have all my saved files form my other computer .The one that fried was a PC. So my question is if I should get a another PC or a Mac. My PC was about 6 years old, so maybe it just died form old age? And does that mean I should give in and get another PC because things have changed? Or should I dish out the money and get a Mac, and will that Mac actually last? Oh, and I'm also a gamer, and I heard that Apples are too good with games. Is that true? I've been a PC since I was born and it's the only thing that I know about. So if anyone has a Mac, I'd love for you to share stories or experiences with them. Same goes for people who have a PC.I don't really have the budget for a brand new Mac, but I found a nice refurbished one from Apple. But I also found a new gaming computer from PC for like 300 bucks cheaper than the Mac. The PC would suit my gaming needs, but I heard that if you buy a Mac, you won't really need another computer. The virus system that I have with my family is like 200 dollars for 5 computers, so the price of the PC and the anti virus would be about 100 dollars cheaper than the Apple would be. But I also heard that Macs are better with anti virus stuff.I'm SOOOOO CONFUSED. Thanks. These are the links to the Mac and PC I found.store.apple.com us product FB950LL A?mco MTU0MzQ1NTgnewegg.com Product Product.aspx?Item N82E16883227238Which one do you think is better for me?
